Sant Andreu Jazz Band

Look at this live interpretation of Jobim’s “Triste”:

This is the Sant Andreu Jazz Band from Barcelona, Spain, and its founder/leader/director Joan Chamorro plays the double bass in this piece (I think he also plays the saxophone). Here’s the preview of a feature film about his music school, which doesn’t seem to be available at the moment (so I put it on my Amazon list):

On the band’s own blog you can see more videos, and also their touring schedule. I would definitely visit a nearby concert should they ever give one.

Of course they play mostly standards. But wow. Just wow. And bravo Joan and colleagues, this is a fabulous concept which I also will show to our local school here (partly I did already).

Here’s another one – these kids (and their teachers) are simply too good to be missed:

Thanks for reading, and for watching.

The Hands of Time

Memories of Steinfeld… it’s where I heard Oliv’s wonderful 6/8 swing for the first time, and we played it lots of time and with lots of other fellow musicians. Here is Shi singing her version of Oliv’s original “Les Mains”:

Maybe I’ll also record a longer version of this, with two singers (English and French), and with some space for soloists in between. I’m waiting to get all the stems to do that.

Thanks for listening.

Somebody took my picture

At the Wikiloops meeting in Steinfeld, someone – I guess it was Diana – took a photo of me playing Marc’s Jazz Bass in front of Gijs’ rig and Marc’s fantastic little Markbass amp:

Looks nice – thanks for the portrait, friends! It was fun being there with you all.

Oh, and the metadata of this one is quite interesting as well. This was taken with 75mm on a Nikon D7200 at ISO 14400. Amazingly good!

Thanks for viewing and reading.

People seemed to like my instrument

As I wrote in the Wikiloops forum already, some people seemed to really like my bass. Kimbo (a guitar player from Cornwall whom you see in our 2018 Reggae video) said that it’s lovely to play. And here are Nilton:

and Fivestringer rocking on my fretless Fourstringer:

More pictures and even videos will be published by Richard on Wikiloops soon, so let’s wait a bit.

Oh, and my brother Willi got his fretless bass (with 5 strings) also by now, and he seems to be really happy with it. Cannot wait to hear something from him…

As always, thanks for reading.

Back from a wonderful 2018 Wikiloops members meeting

I’m just back from the meeting mentioned in this picture, and wow, what a ride it was! Started a thread about it over at wikiloops.com, and here are the two photos I’ve posted there so far:

More images and videos will follow on the Wikiloops forum in case you’re interested.

For here and now, all I can say is that it was awesome. Really nice and talented people in those ‘loops, and it’s an experience everyone should have. Thanks to everyone who was involved in this, and/or who participated, you were all great! Here’s hoping to see all of you again next year.

Thanks, and cheers,
Wolfgang
