Rise and Shine

A really wonderful & jazzy funky theme from Marc, jhonrobert, and Alex – so I added a few low notes and tried to support that groove:

Still some space for soli in there, and the list of musicians until now is:

Thanks to my friends for the fun I had, and thanks to you for listening.

He’s Left The Clan

Short but irresistibly sweet piece by YuuLi, a relatively new member in Wikiloops whose first upload was a 9/8, and whose singing reminded me of other great artists like Joni Mitchell – so I wanted to play with that incredibly talented young woman since she joined us. And today I could finally try a few low notes on one of her tracks (originally an a capella of hers, no less!):

And that nice nylon guitar is also played by a relatively new member, also from France, who calls himself ‘Al-Fadista’. So here’s the list of musicians so far:

Thanks to my friends for all the fun, and thanks to you for reading, and for listening.

Tales of Yore

So after 3 internet outages during the last week, and one first rehearsal of the orchestra where I’m helping out for an injured bass player we now seem to have a stable connection again (knock on wood!), and I could log in to Wikiloops again, and download some songs to play on.

Haven’t done much with Rick aka ‘acousticeg’ since quite some time – if I remember correctly since my first album in the beginning of 2018¹. So I was glad to find an awesome new template of his, and couldn’t resist to adding some low end to it:

List of musicians so far – just him and melike here:

I’ve tried to keep his nice triplet feel in this one, and to also support his flagiolet tones with some from my fretless bass. Hope you like it as much as I did while playing on it.

As always, thanks for reading, and for listening. And thanks also to Rick for the fun I had.

¹Wrong – I did “Beneath the Waves” as another collaboration with him in November, even as a video collab. So this is our third one together after the intial “The way that she moves” with Shi from March 2018 🙂

Second internet outage since this year…

Wow. This time our line including telephone and some HDTV (3play) was cut off for almost 24 hours – seems that UnityMedia is up to some restructuring since they have been bought by Vodafone? Let’s hope that it’s stable from now on…

I took a photo of our cat again yesterday, this time with proper light (one of my studio strobes bounced over a wall). Then I cropped it into a 16:10 format to use it as a screen background, turned it into black & white using a Kodak Tri-X film simulation, and vignetted the corners a bit so that my Conky system monitor output (in white) can still be seen layed over it, as here:

Tuna the cat, Mörfelden-Walldorf 2020 as my current screen background. Original (without the Conky system monitor output and the headline from Gnome3) is on Flickr.

As always, thanks for reading, and for viewing.

The Princess is still dancing

As I also wrote on the ‘loops, I wasn’t entirely happy with my previous upload and remix of Erwan’s sweet little music box theme – so I decided to spend a bit more time with it. So here it is again, with a different take on my bass:

Two tracks, and an internet outage

Yesterday I uploaded two tracks to Wikiloops. The first one was something which wasn’t really finished, in fact it was just me noodling around with my bass playing over a track of – my bass. Nothing special, just what came to mind. But someone asked, so I decided to upload it:

And the second one was an add over three tracks from Erwan on musical box, keys (with some artificial voice), and cello:

Then this morning about half past 11am, I was just answering a nice email I had gotten a bit earlier, our internet went out. And it stayed off for most of the day, all in all for some 9 hours or so.

So not much activity in that direction today, just sent a short thank you answer email, and also said thanks to 8 thumbs on my first and 9 on my second tracks so far, and that was mostly it.

And as always, thanks for reading, and for listening.

Happy new year!

I wish everyone who reads this a happy new year 2020.

Ours started with a bit of concern – Mitchie had let our cat out in the night of January 1st after most of the fireworks were done – and then we waited. And waited. And waited. And after 2200 (10pm) and at temperatures below freezing point I was really worried.

But then, about 10 past 10 she finally showed up, smooched us all a bit, ate, and then fell asleep on a carpet right in front of our TV set. I took her photo hand-held using my small Panasonic 35-100mm zoom lens, and converted it to black & white with Silver Efex (on Windows):

And by now she’s had breakfast, and is sleeping again – this time on my bed.

I’m so glad that she came back.

Thanks for reading.

Ice crystals (Impressions from a short walk on Dec 30th, 2019)

Just listening to an awesome live recording (22 tracks in the mixer/DAW) from our fellow Wikiloops drummer mpointon who also plays in a Pink Floyd tribute band – so I suggest a listen, it’s really cool… Echoes Live – fits this article somehow 🙂

Speaking of the ‘loops, Shi mentioned that she was going out for a walk, and looking out of the window myself I thought yeah, that winter light is so cool with the sun so low, I should take my camera and go for a walk as well. So here are a few impressions of my walk, mostly close-ups of ice crystals:

So as you can see, that walk was chilly but nice, and so was the light. Martin’s music is over while I’m writing this, and Mitchie – who’s an even bigger fan of Pink Floyd than I am – just agreed that this sounds like the original.

As always, thanks for viewing, reading, and/or listening.
