Haven’t really read all of today’s (or even yesterday’s) news, but these stood out:
- Phoronix tested the ECS A780GM mainboard, and benchmarked it together with a Phenom 9500 against a Gigabyte MA790FX-DS5 - and the ECS board, together with its integrated graphics could beat the 790 chip set in several tests. Linux support is nice as well, as they say. However, it seems that they were lucky with their choice of processors. Anandtech took a (officially not supported) Phenom 9850BE with a TDP of 125W, and killed several of these 780G boards with their tests. So their advice is to not use the higher power hungry Phenoms or the X2 6400+ with these boards.
- The Peach project is still celebrating their premiere of Big Buck Bunny. You can support that project with buying their DVD, or you can simply wait for them to release it under a “CC-by” license as a free download.
- polishlinux.org lists some great educational programs. Our three year old daughter loves some of them, and often asks us to let her play and learn.
- And - last not least - Mike Diehl wrote a good and interesting summary about Unison in LinuxJournal. Great read; thanks Mike!
That’s it for the moment. More later perhaps, if I find the time to read.
