I have been really busy doing what is commonly called “market research”. Or so I think. But it looks like it’s turning into something good.
But all work and no play… or better: some of the work actually involved fun, like doing benchmarks with different video compression like MPEG2 (DVD), MPEG4 Part 2 (Xvid, DivX and such), and MPEG4 Part 10 (H.264). The latter is really a stress test for onboard graphics, but for normal DVDs or Xvid .avi files, these are more than good enough, like my “old” Nvidia 6150/430 chip set shows:
This is from the free open movie “Elephants Dream“, which I downloaded in all the offered resolutions. I’ll publish my benchmarks for different machines later, as soon as I have all the data.
Oh, and while I’m at it: maybe you want to go and see the premiere of “Big Buck Bunny” on Thursday, April 10th, 2k8 in Amsterdam? That one will even be harder on our graphics cards I’m sure - these furry main actors have millions of hairs rendered with Blender…
