The internet sites technocrat.net, ZDNet, and the maker Green WiFi themselves report about successful test setups with cheap, low-cost, and solar-powered routers, which could be deployed to “developing countries”.
This set off at least one comment on the ZDNet site, and I agree. We ourselves should use that technology instead of burning more fossile resources each year. Who should start making use of groundbreaking ideas, and to make this planet a better place if not us who can actually afford to do so?
ZDNet cited Marc Pomerleau: “When you have children, you start really thinking about what you want to tell them that you do with your life,” Pomerleau said.
Acknowledged. This is about much more than just the “digital divide”. This is about ourselves, and how we see and treat the rest of the world.
