I like the ISO 1200 magazine. In fact it’s not a magazine but much more a kind of video blog, showing you all kinds of things related to photography. And I like it most when these guys display or show videos of people I’ve met. Like Joe McNally.
So if you’re interested in how to light outside in the harsh sun (quick forewarning: only doable with expensive system speedlights and TTL or with lenses with leaf shutters), look at this two-part (one, two) quick tutorial sponsored by a big camera store from New York City.
Much nicer even (since I’ve met Joe) was to see an interview with him done for a TV station from Manila.
Recommended viewing for photographers or such who want to become one. Or for people who just want to know how to take and make great photos.
Joe never have the necklace back to the girl
Actually what makes these doable is the high speed sync feature on the Nikon camera and flashes. It’s amazing – it just does it. You can get away here with a D90 which is still a nice camera and two speedlights. He is actualy using one speedlight as a “commander” here – it doesn’t contribute to the exposure. But it’s the best way to go in conditions like this.
Yes, Joe is the master. Just love him.
BTW I got my VF2 at Adorama – good place to deal with for the most part.
Hehe yes, that’s what he told her – he has a huge collection of those necklaces
Joe is awesome, and a very nice guy indeed. Met him at Photokina 2010 in Cologne, where he took a photo of my brother Willi with my camera:
Oh, and I’m sure that buying at Adorama or B&H is great. Just never did it because of our German tax offices. But I often thought that for a lens or a flash – where you don’t have the additional different power plug and voltage problems – it would be worth doing some day. Who knows; maybe I’ll order something from KEH one day.
