Making cookies

Today Mitchie and Zuleikha decided to make cookies. I was sitting at my computer, and when looking to my right, I saw this:

I had my camera set to auto ISO (capped at 800) and to a tungsten white balance. But when seeing the result on my monitor, I wasn’t really happy with it. Tho it was a nice picture, technically I thought I could do a lot better.

So I took my studio flash and bounced it over the ceiling at 1/4 of its maximum power, set the white balance to a pre-captured one with that light, and the ISO back to 100. I used the in-camera flash at 1/16 power as an optical trigger for the bigger studio strobe. And with an aperture of f=5 (instead of f=2 like above), I took some more to document the making of the cookies:
