When we were shopping together last time, we bought some flowers, which Mitchie put into a vase and onto our table. I’ve ignored them since almost a week, but now it was time to take a picture or two:
Technical info: shot with my Olympus E-520 DSLR and the 50mm macro lens at f=14 and ISO 200. Simock E300 studio flash into 45″ white reflective umbrella at full power, just right and above. The white table cloth also reflected some light, as did the wall from the left. Black light blocker as background.
Thanks for viewing.

Very nice and great light. I could go for a bunch of these on my table right now
Thanks Libby!
Absolutely amazing! And such small apertures seems to be a new experience for you?
It works well, even on flickr! With the four thirds it is not everything as theory forcasts: F 14 in practice – cool picture -and where is the diffraction? It´s all practice I think and not (like me most of the time) reading the books…
Thanks Thorsten! Well at f=14 you’re actually out of the sharpest zone of the lens already – but that is still better than to blur everything because a too shallow depth of field. Here a smaller sensor and less pixel actually help a bit against diffraction, but on the other hand, some 16 Megapixels of the E-M5 or E-PL5 would also have been nice of course
I like the backlighting! Sort of creates a rim light around the edge of the petals. You are getting some great depth of field here, too. More than I would have expected from f/14. I suppose that the 4/3 sensor helps with the depth of field, too. Very nice!
Thanks Gregg – and yes, the 4/3rds sensor definitely has an advantage in providing a bigger depth of field the closer you get. For macro, closeups, birding, or even some landscapes small sensors are nice to have. Thanks for the compliments as well.
