Only two photos from Saturday

Somehow this wasn’t my day for outside pictures – tho the weather was nice, and we were shopping as usual, and later out for ice cream, I didn’t see much to point one of the cameras to. Even when Zuleikha was in bed already, and I went out solo again, all I could bring home was this tristesse:

That’s “Wohnpark Mörfelden-Walldorf” (where we live), taken from the “Walldorf Karreé” shopping complex. Converted to black and white (with a simulated orange filter), and cropped 16:10. Still not that interesting, hardly any life in it, just a parking lot, ads, and houses…

So a few minutes ago I decided to take the studio flash again, mount the umbrella through its standard reflector, and to light a plant which had photographed before (with sunlight and white background) already, but now using the black side of my bigger reflector as a background. I measured f=9.0 for my flash at full power from that distance, and that’s what I also used in the camera. Added a bit black in post, that was pretty much all:

Finally. If you don’t see anything beautiful, just look closer.

First image, E-PL1 with 20mm, second one, E-520 with the 50mm macro.

Thanks for viewing.

was the “tristesse” shot hand helded?

And yes, we know that beautiful orchid. The Black Background makes it a good desctop background.

Nice pics. You take photos at places and times other people don´t want to take their camera out. This makes a new fresh look.

Thanks Thorsten – and no, that “tristesse” shot was taken using my tripod. I knew I wanted to use low ISO settings, that’s why I took it. Plus if you go for street photography with a Pen, and you’re carrying a tripod, people are unsuspicious, and don’t expect you to pull up the camera and just “click” (with auto ISO) ;-)
