Had to try that old lens again…

After seeing how well Michael Adi is using his OM Zuiko 1:1.8 50mm lens on his Olympus Pen camera, and how beautiful and sharp his photos are, I had to try mine again as well. And since I only have an OM-43rds adapter, I had to mount it onto my E-520 DSLR instead of the smaller ‘Pen’ (E-PL1):

I tried the lens fully open today, since Michael said that his copy is pretty sharp even wide open. And yes, if you focus carefully, you can get nice results, like these for instance:

No wonder that Michael likes this lens so much – it renders things really different than the 50 macro would do. Glad that I have this, and if you don’t have an older manual lens from film days, get one and try it – that can be fun!

Thanks for viewing and reading.

    Hi Wolfgang
thanks so much for the kind words :)
Have you tried it with Pen? Some said using baffle on 4/3 dSLR will reduce glows and increase contrast if we use old glasses above f/1.8. F/1.8 lens is safe in my opinion if we want to shoot wide open. I haven’t made comparison myself. But maybe just my thought, Pen gives me more contrast and more sharp photos than my E500 with old lens. But maybe again it’s just about focus accuracy, it’s easier on Pen to focus manually even with 50mm lens (shoot from far away :) )

      Hello Michael,

you’re most welcome – and you deserve the praise.

Yes, I’ve used it with the Pen – my wife has a 4/3-µ4/3rds adapter, and using them both works fine. Using LiveView to focus on the rear display is about the same on both cameras, using the VF-2 on the Pen makes it really easy and convenient.
